Waste collection changes over the holiday season

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to remind residents of changes to curbside blue box, green bin, and garbage collection due to the holidays.

When and where: Across Durham Region, waste collection scheduled for Wednesday, December 25 will be moved to the following day. The number of crimes and incidents fuelled by racism and discrimination in Canada is on the rise.

In response to this, the Durham Region Anti-Racism Taskforce (DRART) has developed new informational posters to help raise awareness about hate activity and encourage reporting of such incidents. Our goal is to ensure that community members can identify hate activities when they occur and know where support can be accessed.

Ice Testing Underway at Elgin Pond

Elgin Pond has frozen due to recent cold weather and testing of ice thickness has begun. Elgin Pond will officially open for skating when the ice thickness has reached between 8 and10 inches. Ice thickness is monitored and reported by using a system of flags. 

Residents are asked to check the flag status prior to moving onto the ice. A yellow flag means the ice thickness is appropriate for skating. Venturing out on ice should always be done with caution. A red flag means the ice-thickness is...

Metrolinx has indicated any new lease for rail operations will contain substantial changes to the liability and obligations of the Township, in addition to numerous new fleet acceptance requirements for a rail operator.  With the significant new obligations for oversight, insurance, and liability, the Township has decided not to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a rail operator.
