The Township of Uxbridge is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year! Here is a look at how the Township came to be.
On Jan. 1, 1974, under The Regional Municipality of Durham Act, 1973, Uxbridge Township, Scott Township, and the Town of Uxbridge amalgamated into what is known today as the Corporation of the Township of Uxbridge. When the Township was initially established in 1974, there were approximately 10,900 people living in Uxbridge at the time. Today, there are over 23,000 residents.
Over the course of the last five decades, the Township has been committed to responsible government and the delivery of exceptional public services providing a vibrant community for all as reflected in our Strategic Plan.
The Township is currently planning various occasions to take place throughout the year to commemorate this milestone, including:
- An anniversary celebration in Council Chambers during the June 3rd Committee of Council meeting
- Commemorative tree planting
- Cosmos seed giveaway
More information on these activities to be announced.
