Municipalities, across Durham Region, have received input about a shortage of accessible taxis. This situation can make it difficult for some people to travel around the region.

The Region of Durham is committed to ensuring accessible services and programs to all residents and visitors to our region. All Durham Region Transit (DRT) buses are low floor with a front ramp to support customers using mobility devices, as well as other accessibility features required by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). People with disabilities who are unable to use the conventional service may be eligible for DRT Specialized services delivered through the On Demand service. DRT bus services cannot meet the needs of everyone, and in these situations, accessible taxis are more appropriate to meet the client’s needs.

To help understand our specific community need, we are asking for your valuable input, via an accessible taxi survey. This durham.ca/AccessibleTaxiSurvey through October 31, 2024. It is also available in different formats and can be requested by emailing accessibility@durham.ca.
