On November 3, 2024, clocks will fall back one hour at 2am. With the time change, the Uxbridge Fire Department recommends that residents not only change their clocks, but also their batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
For your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to work efficiently the batteries must be replaced for new ones at least once a year. Changing your batteries during the time change is an easy way to remember and stay on track of when you last changed your batteries.
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are vital. They act as an early warning sign during times of emergency. Smoke alarms are required on every storey of the home, including outside all sleeping areas. It is even recommended that residents install smoke alarms inside all bedrooms for further safety.
If you live in a home with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces or an attached garage, you are required to have carbon monoxide alarms outside of all sleeping areas.
It is the law to have properly installed, working alarms.
