The Township of Uxbridge has proclaimed the week of May 26th to June 1st, National AccessAbility week. Every year, Canada observes National AccessAbility Week (NAAW) to honour the valuable contributions of individuals living with disabilities and to highlight efforts aimed at identifying, eliminating, and preventing obstacles to inclusion and accessibility throughout the country.

Throughout the week the Accessibility Advisory Committee will be hosting and engaging in NAAW events, including Red Shirt Day. The Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion, held on May 29th, is an occasion where individuals nationwide unite by wearing red, symbolizing their collective support towards disabled individuals and their families. This initiative, spearheaded by Easter Seals, recurs annually on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week.

The week will start with a flag raising, at Town Hall, on May 27th.

On May 29th, the Accessibility Advisory Committee will be hosting a booth at the Uxbridge Library to engage with the community about NAAW, Red Shirt Day, and the work the Accessibility Advisory Committee does for the community. They will also be sharing more information and content throughout the week, both in person and online.
