Statement From Mayor Dave Barton Regarding Deputy Mayor Transition

On May 1, 2024, Ward 5 Councillor Todd Snooks will assume the role of Deputy Mayor, a position he will hold until February 28, 2025.  I want to thank Ward 4 Councillor Willie Popp for serving as Deputy Mayor over the last 4.5 years (November 2019 and again November 2022).

Willie did an exceptional job representing me at Committees, Events & Conferences, Meetings, and supporting our COVID-19 and EF2 tornado emergency responses.  His leadership & tireless dedication to the organization and to Council is to be commended and recognized. 

Councillor Popp shares, “I have thoroughly enjoyed representing the Township of Uxbridge as Deputy Mayor for the past 5 years. I have always been a strong advocate for training and succession planning, and I support the rotation of Deputy Mayor completely.” 

With the current stable environment, it is time to focus on succession planning, and improve organizational leadership readiness by regularly rotating the Deputy Mayor position for the remaining term of Council.
