Status Update Regarding YDHR Leases

On January 8th, Township of Uxbridge Council directed staff to refrain from entering into a new train station lease with York Durham Heritage Railway (YDHR). YDHR vacated the property and returned the station to the Township, as per the terms of the agreement.

Under a separate lease, YDHR has use of the rail corridor and railyard lands until January 31, 2024, at which time they must vacate the property. If YDHR wishes to enter onto these lands after January 31, 2024, they will be required to enter into a month-to-month Permission to Enter Agreement with the Township, ensure their account balance is current, and provide proof of required insurance. The Permission to Enter Agreement is for the sole purpose of removal of assets and clean-up of lands.

The Township will work in consultation with Metrolinx, the Tourism Committee and Downtown Revitalization Committee to determine future uses of this important tourism asset.
