Community Improvement Plan

The Township of Uxbridge Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is a collection of programs intended to stimulate development of, or improvements to, the downtown area.

At the present time the Township of Uxbridge is taking applications for two programs: the Building, Façade and Signage Improvement Program and the Accessible Improvement Program.

The 2019 Application period is open until June 30th, 2019. If you wish to apply after this date please contact the Planning Services Department to discuss the timing of your project.


The Accessibility Improvement grant promotes improved accessibility to existing buildings within the CIP area.  Accessibility Improvements must follow the Accessibility Requirements in the Ontario Building Code in order to be approved.

Some examples of items tht can be addressed using the Accessible Improvement CIP program include barrier-free storefront access, ramps or the improvement of business access (eliminating stairs), improvements to private parking areas, enhanced lighting in pedestrian walkways and additional accessibility improvements as approved by the Town and CIP coordinator.

1.  What properties downtown are eligible for this program?

Township Council has established an area to which the Community Improvement Plan applies. Only properties within the boundary area will be eligible for funding. Preference will be given to projects that take place on Brock St. W. or in the vicinity of the Downtown core.

2.  What aspects of my property can be improved under this program?

Properties located in this CIP area are eligible to apply for the Building, Facade and Signage Improvement Program or the Accessibility Improvement Program.  These two programs are designed to improve commercial facades, encourage replacement of signs that do not comply with the Heritage District Guidelines, and improve accessibility to commercial property for residents.

3.  How much money is available?

Grant funding from the Township will compensate for up to 50% of eligible expenses to a maximum of $5,000 per property.

The Township has a budget of $30,000 for the 2019 year.  Once this budget has been fully allocated there will be no additional applications accepted for this program.

4.  Who can apply?

Building owners or their official agents within the Downtown Uxbridge Community Improvement Project Area are eligible to apply for grant funding.

5.  Is there a fee to apply?

There is no fee to apply.

6.  How does one apply?

All applicants must have a pre-consultation meeting prior to submitting an application. The pre-consultation meeting will determine eligibility, scope of proposed work, project timing, and supporting documentation requirements. If the project appears to be eligible then the applicant must complete an application form available in the Planning Services Department at the Township of Uxbridge.  A copy is available here.
